Cinderella Affair
The Cinderella Affair boutique in the East Valley helped to connect girls on limited funds with free prom dresses on March 25. A plus-size dress designed by an aspiring teen fashion designer was one of the free dresses available, thanks to a partnership with FABRIC fashion incubator and the Arizona Apparel Foundation. Through multimedia video production, students at SPOT 127 showcase the story.

MCCCD Chancellor and Rio Salado President Visit
The students and staff at SPOT 127 got a real treat when Maricopa Community Colleges Chancellor Maria Harper-Marinick and Rio Salado President Chris Bustamante stopped by for a visit. The two answered questions about success, college and education. Afterwards, both the chancellor and the president viewed some of the students' work and shared their admiration for the students' successes thus far.

immigrants_story
This piece was inspired by recent immigration talks and the election of a president that has been outspoken about tightening immigration policy. The goal was to capture the story of Esmeralda, an immigrant from El Salvador (pictured at right), on her journey to the United States.

After three years in remission for breast cancer, a Scottsdale woman and her daughter are struggling to decide what is more important; getting tests done to see if her daughter has a chance for cancer or being put in a high-risk pool. Olivia Parker, an intern with KJZZ’s SPOT 127 Youth Media Center, talks with her mom about how she is planning to save healthcare.

After only three years at Barrett, Dr. Barca has found a long list of wonderful attributes shared by both the school and its students. Whether it be the fascinating texts they read in class, or her pet peeves, Dr. Barca shares a joy for Barrett and the students that she teaches.

With a variety of options available to college students to pay off college tuition (scholarships, loans, jobs, etc.), a new seemingly “easier” alternative has increased in popularity; becoming a sugar baby. Also known as “sugaring”, the sugar baby lifestyle consists of having a specific type of relationship with a wealthy sugar daddy, in exchange for payment. In a list of sugar baby rankings by university, Arizona State, one of the largest universities in the United States, ranks in third.
